“New York Koeln Project”

Christian Torkewitz - Piano,
Micheal O'Brien - Bass,
Phil Maturano - Drums

Phil and Christian have been playing in Europe together for over four years. While both were based in Cologne, they forged a great and unique musical connection. The two of them have developed a very individual repertoire of Latin jazz arrangements and original compositions. Phil and Michael met over a year and a half ago in New York City, shortly after Phil relocated to New York. They have played on numerous gigs and informal jam sessions in a number of different styles throughout the city. In January of 2007 Michael and Phil met to plan out the possibility of doing a project together. They both wanted to play with Christian. There was just one problem. The Atlantic Ocean. Through a number of truly serendipitous events, Christian was going to come to New York City for a weekend, for an unrelated purpose. The three jumped at the chance to rehearse, then record the material that Christian and Phil had developed in Germany, as well as an arrangement of a standard, and a composition of Michael. The resulting cd is the product of those magical, and intense four days.

“Changes”

My first solo album.  I couldn't have done it without my old pal Adam Goldberg. Besides being a great actor and up and coming feature film director, Adam is a huge jazz fan and really has an ear for the stuff. He is the executive producer of the album. Adam even directed his own feature film entitled"Scotch and Milk" -- This film has one of the best soundtracks I have ever heard, a score entirely made up of jazz artists! From Yusef Lateef to Herbie Hancocks 'Head Hunters". He was even good enough to give me my first huge acting break and put me in it! I was pretty surprised at the extent of his jazz fanaticism, even though he asked me to suggest some music for the film, I learned of a few recordings that were unknown to me.
